Gateway to adventure
With its enduring design, the Shikari boxlock double rifle opens a new chapter for hunters, beckoning enthusiasts to experience the thrill of an African double rifle safari with a Rigby in-hand.
Marc Newton, managing director of John Rigby & Co., commented: “With the Shikari, we’ve not only resurrected a classic but reimagined it for the modern adventurer. It embodies the essence of a 21st-century hunter, seamlessly blending tradition with time-honoured craftsmanship.”
Gunmaking practices that transcend time
At the core of the Shikari lies a robust and durable Anson & Deeley action. Available in a range of calibres, the Shikari features a classic Rigby quarter rib, front sight block, and circle-jointed doll’s head top extension and familiar Rigby grip-catch forend release, adding to the rifle’s classic allure.
Fully bespoke, the Shikari allows hunters to personalise every detail, from the choice of Turkish walnut stock to the preferred barrel length. With traditional boxlock border engraving and the maker’s name on the barrels, each stock is made to the customer’s bespoke measurements, before being finished with traditional London Best oil finish.
The Shikari rifle
Available in .450/400NE, .450NE, .470NE, and .500NE calibres, each Shikari boxlock double rifle is made to order. Customers can specify barrel length, which is regulated at 50 yards to the client’s choice of ammunition, as well as choosing their preferred grade of Turkish walnut for the stock (grade five as standard) which is custom-fitted.
