“Heart of a Lion”
Mike Barlow is a master classical animalier sculptor who blends unique, original ideas, hand-designed and crafted into bronze sculptures with classical context. Finished with dexterous surfaces and beautiful patinas, his work is timeless.
“In reflecting on the symbolism of the lion throughout history, I was inspired to create the bronze sculpture Heart of a Lion. The lion has long represented courage, strength and leadership, qualities that have shaped the character of great figures across generations.
This symbolism also brought to mind how Theodore Roosevelt’s sons described their father as a ‘lion’ — an unstoppable force: brave, fierce, protective, always roaring against injustice. Kermit Roosevelt once wrote that his father ‘charged life head-on — no fear, all heart, hunting dangers while shielding his pride.’ Theodore embodied raw, wild strength wrapped in charm. Even rivals knew that to cross him was to face the claws.
Those reflections inspired the creation of Heart of a Lion, capturing the powerful character and enduring symbolism that the lion has represented throughout history. It will be a magnificent addition to the trophy room for prominent conservationists, hunters and wildlife enthusiasts worldwide. ”
